Training That Builds Capability

A training discussion linking knowledge of the world, knowledge of the good and knowledge of the self.

Understanding people can put to work.

Useful training changes what people can notice, judge and do.

I provide workshops and tailored development that help individuals, teams and organisations build practical capability in the conditions they face.

Experience and thinking behind the work

My training brings historical inquiry and modern understanding together with practical experience in leadership, organisational capability development and facilitated workshops. It begins with the situations participants face and what they need to become capable of doing.

It draws on my published education books and frameworks, including The Architecture of the Self. These examine the learner, the knowledge they need and the conditions in which they contribute. They provide ways to connect self-understanding and responsible judgement with practical action in learning and work.

Begin with what people need to do

We establish what participants need to understand, what they need to become capable of doing and where they currently encounter difficulty.

That gives the training a clear purpose. The content, examples and activities are shaped around the audience and the situations in which they will apply the learning.

Connect understanding with practice

I explain ideas in plain language and connect them to recognisable situations.

Participants work with questions, examples, discussion and practical application. They examine their assumptions, consider different possibilities and practise using what they are learning.

The aim is for understanding to become available when a real decision or challenge arises.

Develop the judgement behind the action

Practical capability draws on more than technical knowledge.

Knowledge of the world helps people understand the conditions, systems and relationships they are working within.

Knowledge of the good helps them judge what is worth pursuing, what responsible action requires and how their choices affect others.

Knowledge of the self helps them recognise the assumptions, habits and reactions they bring to the situation.

Together, these strengthen the judgement through which knowledge becomes useful action.

Areas we can work on

Training can be shaped around:

  • Self-mastery: understanding yourself and strengthening how you respond.
  • Leadership: exercising judgement, carrying responsibility and enabling others.
  • Team capability: connecting expertise, improving collaboration and building shared purpose.
  • Practical frameworks: making sense of complexity and identifying useful action.
  • AI in learning and professional work: using AI to support understanding, capability and contribution.

How the training can work

Engagements can take the form of focused workshops, team development sessions or a tailored sequence of sessions.

We agree the audience, intended learning and practical application before shaping the program.

Tell me what people need to become capable of doing. We’ll build the training around that.

Where Ancient Wisdom Meets Modern Understanding

Resolve complexity. Build capability. Turn understanding into action.
